Lure Stick
professional canine training tool

About
Professional dog trainer are often having to stoop down low in order to lure dogs into commands. While working at Petmate, we teamed up with Brandon McMillan, professional animal trainer and host of Lucky Dog (pictured above). After gaining insights from Brandon McMillan, I was tasked with designing an extendable training tool to lure pets with treats.
Concept Development
After exploring many forms and ideas, we develop a rounded triangular handle with a telescoping treat clip. Having the triangular profile on the handle enables more control and fits a wide clip mouth.
Refining the Design
We developed many sizes and texture treatments. Working with Brandon McMillan, we finalized the design.
The subtle curl of the clip invites the user to depress it.
The clip is strong enough to hold a treat, but loose enough for dogs to easily grab it as a reward. There is also a lip on the underside of the clip for spreadable treats.
Final Product
The Brandon McMillan Lure Stick is great for professional dog trainers to lure dogs to complete commands without having to bend over. The extendable clip fits many treats including an area for spreadable treats. The pocket clip is perfect for storing when not in use. The Lure Stick is available for purchase on Petmate.com.
